2026
A One-of-a-Kind Overnight Camp with a Nature Center & Camp Zoo
Finding the right overnight summer camp for your child isnât always easyâespecially if your child truly loves animals and iss a not so much about sports.
Many camps offer swimming, sailing, and sports. But very few are designed specifically for kids who light up when they see animals, explore nature, and learn by doing.
Thatâs exactly why we created Swift Nature Camp.
Iâm Lonnie, and for over 30 years Iâve directed Swift Nature Camp, a small, trusted animal and nature sleepaway camp for kids ages 6â17. While we are located in the beautiful Wisconsin Northwoods, many of our campers come from Illinoisâand travel together on our supervised camp bus, making the journey simple and comfortable for families.
đż A True Nature Center & Camp Zoo Experience
What makes Swift Nature Camp different is something you wonât find at most campsâa real Nature Center and Camp Zoo.
Here, campers donât just see animalsâŚ
They care for them every single day.
đž Campers experience:
- Cam
pers:Hands-on animal care and feeding - Learning about animal behavior and habitats
- Interaction with farm animals and small animals
- Guest speakers and nature-based learning
- A deeper connection to wildlife and the environment
This is not a petting zooâitâs a living, learning experience where responsibility comes first.
Animal Adoption: A Camp Experience Kids Never Forget
One of the most meaningful parts of camp is our animal adoption program.
Each summer, campers have the opportunity to:
- Adopt a small animal during their stay
- Feed, water, and care for their animal daily
- Learn responsibility before playtime begins
- Build empathy and confidence through care
For many children, this becomes the highlight of their summerâand a moment they never forget.
đž Bring Your Own Pet to Camp
Does your child already love caring for a pet at home?
At Swift Nature Camp, campers can bring a small caged pet to live in our Nature Center during camp.
This unique opportunity:
- Helps children feel more comfortable away from home
- Reinforces responsibility and routine
- Makes camp feel even more personal
Very few overnight summer camps offer thisâand families love it.

đˇ From the Director: Why We Have Bubba the Pig
Over the years, people often ask meâwhy do you have Bubba the pig at camp? The answer is simple. Animals teach lessons that we canât always teach with words. I remember one camper who was unsure about camp and struggled those first few days. She was quiet, a little homesick, and unsure where she fit in. One morning, she was assigned to help care for Bubba. At first, she hesitated. But slowly, she began showing up each dayâfeeding him, talking to him, taking responsibility. Something changed. She started smiling more. She connected with other campers. She found her place. It wasnât about the pigâit was about what caring for something else did for her. Thatâs why Bubba is here.
Because sometimes, the simple act of caring helps a child discover confidence, responsibility, and connection in a way nothing else can.
đ˛ A Summer That Stays With Them
At Swift Nature Camp, children donât just have funâthey grow.
They leave with:
- Greater independence
- Stronger confidence
- New friendships
- A deeper love for nature and animals
And maybe most importantly⌠A sense of who they are.
