My name is Cory; I am going to be the director of the nature center this coming summer. I realize right now camp and summer feel like an impossible distance away (especially considering winter hasn't even gotten here yet), but I am sure it will be here far sooner than anyone expects. I am looking forward to working with all of you both campers and staff alike. A little background about myself I graduated from UW &endash; La Crosse with a degree in biology and environmental science in May, I decided to go back to school now I am seeking a degree in secondary education (I want to be a teacher). Outside of the school and work I run, bike, canoe, play Frisbee and enjoy reading.

Wow here it is almost time for camp to start. We will be moving up to
camp at the end of April. We have many projects we would like to
complete before you campers head up north. Staffing is going really

Hows everyone been? I must apologize, I have not been my normal Steve-O self. I have been so busy with having a classroom and a job I have not been in contact with many of you. Being a teacher has always been a dream of mine, however, I am not Steve-O to my students I am Mr. Ostergaard. Could you guys ever imagine calling me that! Now on to some sad news, I will most likely not be able to return this summer in a full-time role. However, I will visit and I know camp will still be awesome. This summer will still be really Whoasome! I expect to be able to hear you guys screaming about that red wagon all the way down in Chicago! This is Lonnie. I just wanted to share with you guys that last weekend we were invited to the Polish Radio 1030 AM for a kids show and guess who went with us?
Yes, our camp chickens : Thelma and Luoise. They had a blast !!!!! We were so excited because we got to see some of our campers from Discovery session : Alex and her brother Patrick, Kamil, Gabby, Adam. It was so much fun ! We even got to eat Alex's birthday cake! looks like everybody wants to come back to camp and we are looking forward to seeing you guys at the reunion in January 08.

This summer before camp starts I will be going to Walt Disney World for a week to play in one of their parades and then right after that I will be spending 2 weeks in China to play at various venues there. I was outside today in the beautiful early summer weather. As I stood outside, I thought about this upcoming summer, when I started thinking about camp. I started thinking back to my first year here and began laughing and crying at the same time. That was a summer that I will always look back at with happy memories. I realized that camp has done so much greatness for me. I still hear from people from my first year of camp. Keep in touch with your camp friends because these people are often friends for life. Anyway, I will have a busy summer it looks like, but don't hesitate to send me an email. Thought I'd give you all an update. I've had my hands full with homework and other school activities lately. I just got back last week from a robotics competition. Yes, I'm on a robotics team. We weren't sure of our exact placement, but we got somewhere in the top 16 of the nation. The competition was fun and was held in Miami.
Everyone seems so excited for school to end. Although school ends for everyone, it continues through this summer for me. I'm moving up in math so I'll be in summer school for most of my summer, but I don't mind because I like math.

Message:: It's almost time for camp again and I'm sure a lot of people are excited but for the fresh councellors and campers it may seem a daunting experience.
Believe me, this will be one of the best things you will ever do. So many friends, so many experiences and the fun that you will have at SNC and afterwards because of SNC is unlimited.
I was a camp counsellor in 1998 and 1999 and it was a life changing experience and taught me a lot, especially coming from overseas. Just let everything flow and have fun, there are a lot of great people still at camp from when i was there so you can learn from them.
AFter camp, I finished my degree in computing, got a job and saved enough money to do something I really wanted and that was to go back and study/train to be a nurse. SNC had a part in that decision even though it has been a long time since I left the Minong area but it has left a mark that you should all have.

Hey it's Counselor Ben from summer 04....I was cleaning out my back
room today and i found the little picture book that Lonnie had given
all of us staff at the end of the summer. I spent much of the day
thinking about how Swift Nature Camp was one of the best moments in
my life and will never be forgotten. I hope you guys are all doing
great. I am terrific. I finish up here at Ferris State in May and I

Everything down here in Kansas is fine. Bill is doing good. Desha is busy as usual or I'm sure she'd leave a message on here as well. I rarely get to see her anymore. The weather down here is crazy. We had winter, with snow and everything for about a week and then it went straight into spring. Crazy. We had a tornado! I know I know, a tornado in Kansas, who could imagine.. but it was in January! Those are really rare. There hasn't been on since 1949. But the good thing is no one got hurt, just a car dealership got ruined and there are plenty of those as is. I'm obviously a little late on the e-news, but I thought I'd email anyway...:)Sometimes it seems like a life ago that I was at Swift and sometimes itseems like yesterday! I've been keeping really busy recently-I moved toSarasota, FL in late July and started teaching first grade down here...(Meg,if you get this email, I just drove by Eckerd last weekend!) I'm reallylucky and have a great class with just 18 six and seven year olds.After I graduated from Drake University, I moved to Japan. I taught Englishin the Kyoto/Osaka region for about a year and 10 months. It was an awesomeexperience, but I knew I had to leave eventually. I finished up in Japan inMay and went on a two month tour of Europe with my boyfriend, Simon.(Bryce-he's the one from Wellington.) We hit about a dozen countries and sawtons of incredible sights!He's back in Japan now (visas, argh!), but should be moving here permanentlyin the spring (Courtney and Ryan-get back to me about the engagement visawhen you get a chance!)-I can't wait. He actually just called tonight totell me that he bought a ticket to surprise me by coming for a long weekendin two weeks-I can't believe it and I can't wait!!!I think that's about all the news from here. its jimmy hollywood!!hope the reunion is going great and im incredibly sorry that i am unable to attend.As for me im actually pretty close by. Im at naval station great lakes atNaval Gunnery School. i know you all will be sharing stories of camp and i know that i have experienced a few of them. I wish i could be there so i could reunite withthose who i have known for many many years ( Karyanne (spelling bad) and Andrew who was in cabin 6 with me twice im sure he has horror stories from the experience.) oh and yes bootcamp was hard . Swift Nature Camp has been a second home for me since i was 12 in my first cabin with Bryce and Big K. in the years i spent as a CIT and counsellor i think i tried to be a lot like Bryce and Grandpa and Jaime and Duke , Ryan, Jeremy, Scottie and all those who i knew and those who watched me and helped me grow up ( Jess who has been yelling at me for 6 years not to roughhouse in the swim area and jeffs ever-watchful eye making sure i didnt step out of line and to see when i did do good. I remember when Lonnie dressed up as Wonder Woman in her first year and how she was always there for anyone at anytime.
i remember the trips down the Nam (sleeping under the bridge), and being thrown in the river when i burned my leg and being there everytime i was in pain!(thankyou Bryce)
i remember the friends like Andrew and Karyanne who grew up with me at camp.
thankyou all of you for the best summers of my liffe and know that you do make a difference and that the good heavily outweighs the bad.

Well, the year is going by fast. I'm very excited to graduate middle school in June. Currently, I'm working as the cue person in the school musical "Honk" which is a story based off the ugly duckling. I'm having a ton of fun, even though it's a ton of work! I'm in charge of the whole tech crew :) So, open house is the 29th of May from 2-4. I might be able to come. It depends on how the school graduation practices are scheduled. If I can come, is there anything I can help with or do to make SNC look exciting and like the greatest place on earth (which in reality it is!)? Has Court decided to come back this year? Well, I'm getting excited for school to end. Eighth grade is boring:) So, recently, I decided to experiment with a dead light bulb. Realizing that no matter what I do, it wont light up, i cracked open the bulb, removed the filament, connected the wires inside the bulb, and connected it to a 9 volt battery. Well, it did emit a bright red light and gave me a burn! so that wasn't very bright. well, I have to go now. Talk to ya'll soon

contract and am sending it in tomorrow. I'm soo excited! I miss
everyone very much. And no matter what Cam says I am determined to
not talk with a "Kansas accent", though I really think it's a
fictional thing. A few weeks ago we had the most beautiful ice storm.
All the trees were draped in silver and there was a foot of ice on
all the roads. school was closed for three days, but the best part
was the tranquility. We lost power for 7 days, and had to stay cooped
inside by the fireplace before my mom sent us off to a friend's. It's
hard to keep four people huddled around a fireplace. Other than that,
not much is new here. Bill's coming back this year as well, he says
hi to everyone too. Alright, well I can't wait to see you guys. Suzy,

Message:: So school was canceled at about 12:45 today due to the
"worst storm of the year" which basically gave us a few measily
inches...heh, it's always good to escape school for no reason.
Anyway, I tried to make the reunion, just the fact that i worked 40
hours the previous week didn't sit well with my sleepiness factor.
Besides the fact that mid terms were approaching. Hope you'll
forgive me. (I'm sure you will).
I bought a crazy car in November, a Nissan Sentra, that has been dubbed Nemo, partially because it's tiny, also becasue it's fun to look for in the walmart parking lot. (thus the "finding nemo" aspect) :P
Alright enough of that...
camp (and summer, or more precisely, the end of winter) just can't come fast enough. I can't wait to be a JC with Katie (and others?) and see all of you guys again :)

Sorry you haven't heard much from my end, however I've been pretty busy with work and school, shuffling my weekends from places as close as Green Bay to places as far as Ohio playing gigs with the band. It's going to be cool to be living so close to Shannon, Dylan and December. I am leaving on December 26th so unfortunetly I will be unable to make it to the reunion in Chicago. However, Swift Nature Camp is where I am going to be this summer and I look foreward to that with great enthusiasm. It snowed today during the wee hours of the morning, im not talking little flakes either, what i mean is huge clumps of puffy white! Whatdaya know? summer really is over...
Tomorrow is Copper Bowl (kind of like a home coming but with a Copper Bowl as a trophy, we are in the copper country after all) and if hancock wins we're heading to state playoffs--:P Which would be a complete turn around from last year when we had a record of 0-8 (no wins at all).
So a few of you know I'm currently employed by America's favorite french fries ("Welcome to McDonalds, can I take your order?") and making some decent checks...at least enough to pay some insurance on a car, which should be a-comin in early Jan. (yay) Just in time for getting to some serious swimming practices. This year our school had to combine with our rival, Hoton. I guess it really doens't matter since its individual times anyway (except for relays of course), and we'll still get to go to the same meets and such (Jess, maybe I'll see you at UP finals?? posiblity?)
Anyway, I'm missing camp as usual, and planning a trip down to the reuion in jan, I've never made it down before so i'm looking forward to seeing all of you! Oh yeah, by the way, I'm comin back for 2004! JC year! bring on the fun times! this is getting longer than i was hoping for so i'll let you all get back to yourlovely lives. Adios mis amigos!

I couldn't believe it, I was swimming in lake superior just weeks ago and now it's snowing. Guess summer is really over for good. Well, after camp got out, I went home and did a 50 mile hike in two days. I'm back at school now. I'm working really hard, and I'm doing lots of fun stuff too. For the first time ever, I'm taking piano lessons. I'm still terrible, but its lots of fun. I'm also taking a tennis class even though I haven't played tennis in 5 years or so. I can't wait for winter when I'll get back to ski instructing on the weekends!

I'm back home in Hancock...yes a town that close to Minong in size so I'm pretty bored at the moment. I've been working at McDs recently, well at least until swimming and stuff get going, so i might be back for 2004 as a JC...hey, its a possibility at least.
I move back into my room in a few days (my parents decided to redrywall my room when I was at camp, I've been sleeping on the couch ever since the end of camp) so thats gonna be sweet, all of my stuff is scattered around the house...i think i even have some stuff left to unpack from camp...now thats awefully sad.
btw, im going to try to make it for the reunion this year to see all of you guys since im so far away from everyone in da UP. It's only a 9 hour drive...i can do it. Anything for camp right? ROLL ON 2004!
Anywhoo, i'm gettng mighty hungry so i think a chinese food run is in order...

Message:: Hey there everyone! Just read the newsletter and figured I should probably explain why I'm not well. On September 5th I was driving out to Moline, Illinois to pick up my old roommate to go visit some friends at my old school. As I was making a turn, a women in a truck slammed into my drivers side door at about 55mph(in a 40mph zone). I managed to squeeze out of the passenger side door and checked out the damage. My car was totalled. Not only was my car in bad shape, but as the shock wore off I began to realize that I wasn't in good shape either. My entire left side was throbing and my stomach back red and very warm. I was rushed to the ER where I was placed in ICU where I had many x-rays and CT scans. I had a lacerated spleen, many fractured ribs, and a pulmonary contusion on my right lung. Not sure if they needed to perform surgery on my spleen, I had to stay the night for observation. After four days in ICU and no surgery, I was taken to my own private room where!
I stayed for a day and then was released to go home. One month of bedrest, a few months of what I like to call "house arrest," and six months to heal completely. That means no school for me this semester...doctors orders. Something as small as being hit in the side with a backpack could put me in the hospital. When I thought it couldn't get any worse, it did. Last week I rolled out of bed and there was a sharp pop in my chest and I later found out that one of my fractured ribs had now broken off completely. Now one side of my rib cage is sunken in while the other is normal.

I love my new job in Parish Nursing and I'm enjoying it
immensely. Our church has their own elementary school, and I am
working with the kids and teachers in health education. My first
all-school Assembly is in October (-perhaps I'll teach them about
safety eyes!)We have a Church Festival in two weeks, and
"Patches-of-Joy" will be there clowning around and making baloon
animals for the kids. Was up to visit Camp over the Labor Day
holiday. We had a great visit with Jeff & Lonnie, and I even got
to go canoeing on the Nam - and saw lots of wildlife. Miss all of you

Well, since the end of camp I returned safely to the Pacific
Northwest in a $400 dollar Le Baron, bought in Oshcosh, WI with
December and Tom. Together we saw the country side in 48 hours. After
that I moved into my dorm room at Whitman college where I live with
my roomate, Jocelyn. I go to class every day to learn (which all of
you should do!) and read constatntly so that some day I can become a
geologist. LAst weekend Dylan and I went to the farmers market and
went over camp memories which made me excited for next summer. I
can't wait to see you all again. Bye.So, that is what is happening
and I hope that you guys get this e-mail because I was unsure of the
address. I had to ask Courtney. So, give me a ring and let me know
how things are going back in the mid-west.

So...i know that everyone is just dying to know what the Janelle is
up to....they may find it not as interesting as they hope though.
Lot of studying lately, reading cases for Constitutional Law
and some MAJOR Right now I'm starting a voter
information/registration group on campus. It's tentatively
named The VIPS for the voter information project, but if anyone has a
better idea, please let me know! I just got a job at the
pretzel store at the mall, so if anyone is in the Bloomington-Normal
area, stop by Eastland mall to see the pretzel princess in action.
Did some arts and crafts maven tie dyeing at home with my
little brother, I made an uber cool wall hanging for my dorm room.
And for everyone who is eagerly awaiting my summer 2004 singing
debut, I'll let you know that I have been working on some new songs
for those early mornings!

Since then I've been busy traveling back and forth between Chicago

alot in america after camp it was a fantastic experience staying with

Grandpa is working away with mental health clients and finishing
masters in december. Having a birthday in October and would

Things are good here but am looking forward to finishing class work.
Devy here in NY workin away, Sarah is doing a short job for the
sundance channel and finishing up her 2 films. Brad is
finishing up his music doc. and workin on your film And then in

Hey guys, we had a vicious ice storm today so school was canceled
(smile). Just about all the snow is gone so the ground looks really
awesome all coated with ice. But thats ok, camp is approaching soon
enough to forget about this cold. Only 33 more days of sophomore life

warmer here in Evergreen Park....(kinda...it just snowed last week
even though it was 65 the day before!) I can't help getting totally

i have just been reading all the new messages posted by the new staff and all you campers coming back, and it has had me thinking about camp so much. its going to be strange not being there this summer, but i am england bound for june and july with courtney so she can meet my family :)we are planning to come visit near the end of 3rd session when we get back from the uk, on our way to bryce and erins wedding. so we are looking forward to seeing a bunch of you again when we get there, and meeting some of the new staff. well i hope you all have a great summer, i miss you all loads.
