We understand that your child's counselor will be the most influential role model of his summer. Counselors use fun and education to build a nurturing mentor relationship based on mutual respect and understanding. With that in mind, we are extremely diligent in our screening and hiring process looking for patience and a genuine willingness to spend time and effort with each camper. Our quality staff meets the challenges of nurturing each camper as if they were the only child in camp.

Many of our counselors are teachers, and most have been campers or counselors at this or other camps, bringing many years of experience working with young people. Swift Nature Camp hires only mature staff over 18 years of age. "They are here because they love working with children and making a world of difference, one child at a time," Lonnie says.

To provide diversity, our counselors are recruited from all regions of the country and abroad. Intensive counselor training begins ten days prior to the camper's arrival and includes child safety, basic CPR and First Aid, waterfront lifesaving, camp policies, environmental practices, and campers' psychological development. Parents even receive an evaluation of their child's progress from their counselor.

The efforts of the entire staff are focused on each child's personal development in a safe, fun, and encouraging atmosphere.

& Smokie the camp dog

We love Swift Nature Camp. For us, camp is a way of life. It brings us endless joy to see our campers grow and develop each summer at camp. It's like having one huge extended family spread out throughout the world, that each summer has a reunion in the Northwoods of Wisconsin.

Jeff completed the American Camping Association Director course in 1994 and participated at camp Minoqua for eight summers. He is currently an American Red Cross Life guard Instructor, a Water Safety Instructor and a First Aid and CPR Instructor. Recently he was nominated Vice President of the Midwest Association of Independent Camps. He also sits on the local board of the American Camping Association. Jeff loves the outdoors and enjoys sharing enthusiasm for camp-life with all involved.

Lonnie has recently become a resident of the United States. In her homeland of Poland, she was a grade school teacher for ten years. Her specialty was teaching English as a foreign language. In addition to teaching she was involved with the Girl Scouts in her local village. Lonnie has unlimited patience, innovative program ideas, and a true love of children, plus she plays the guitar and sings...always a big hit at camp.
