International Campers
At Swift Nature Camp, we have a rich history of welcoming campers from around the world to our little camp in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. For years international families have found themselves openly and warmly accepted, even celebrated as other children wish to learn more about your child’s home cultures and language. We feel our International Campers are a treasure at SNC. Over the years some of the countries represented are: Australia, Belarus, China, Columbia, Denmark, Ecuador, France, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Singapore, Poland, Japan, Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, Peru, Spain, Uganda, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. We love to celebrate different cultures each session with our International Day. This festival showcases the ethnic foods and traditions of your child's home country.

English as a Second Language
At Swift we realize that a summer camp experience in America for your child is not only about fun but is a cultural learning experience. It is best that all international children have experience and feel somewhat comfortable with the English language, often a year or two of schooling is plenty. We will work hard and even use your child's native language so they understand what is going on at camp and feel comfortable to participate in all the activities. We also know that many international children may fall back and want to speak their native language, this is normal. However, most international parents use this time at camp to strengthen a child's use of the English language. For this reason we ONLY allow a native language to be used when explanation is NEEDED. We even have families sign the following agreement.

International Camper Aggrement

Coming to Swift Nature Camp in the United States is an amazing opportunity to have fun and make new friends. But it is also a great way to learn about the people of America. Our small size and caring staff create an environment to easily make good friends. In order to maximize the fun you have, it is important that you try to the best of your ability to speak English. We realize in most cases English is a foreign language to you and it may be challenging to speak it. We will try to help you as much as possible. You may find others at camp that speak you native language but our goal is to have you use English. If we feel you are not using English enough, we will ask you to use it more. If we do not see progress, we will contact your parents and let them know about it. We ask parents to support SNC in this mission of having all campers and staff speaking English so everybody will make friends and have fun while at camp.

Coming to Swift Nature Camp
Our International Campers find SNC in 2 ways; the first is online. Using the internet, families can see how our camp can give individual attention to their child, especially when life in America can be so new and different. These families often enroll online and make their own travel arrangements to camp.

The second way many of our campers find us is through our local representatives in the following countries:

CHINA - Zona Bauer, Rainbow House School, WeChat-ID:MissZona, Email:This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

MEXICO, Monterrey - Monica Villanueva, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

MEXICO, Alce - Alicia García Valles, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

POLAND EUROPE - Jacek Frankowski, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Please feel free to contact any of the above representatives to give you more details about our camp programs or to help you arrange your flights.

Flying To Camp
At SNC we use the international airport in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This airport is 2 hours away from camp. Most campers fly as an unaccompanied minor, well supervised by airline personnel during the flight. We will meet your child at the airline gate to ensure that your child will never be unsupervised. From there we will travel together aboard a camp van or chartered bus directly to camp. Once at camp, your child will be introduced to cabin mates and be celebrated as he or she stands when your country is called out during dinner. We ask that you make flight arrangements so your child arrives at the airport the day camp starts and leaves the day camp is over. We ask that arrivals or departures from Minneapolis are between the hours of 8am-3pm. If you have different hours please call or email for approval.

Learn & Practice English at Camp
International Campers seeking help with language development benefit from our English Immersion Program, which focuses on fun and learning. English proficiency improves through direct contact with the language. Living daily life and participating in activities like sailing, cooking, arts and crafts is the best way to learn a foreign language. We will work individually with each camper as they practice English in real life situations. Campers can always ask grammar, vocabulary and syntax questions, and our staff will take time to ensure that each camper is comfortable and making the best linguistic progress possible. One of the greatest benefits to our International Campers is constant daily use of the English language. International Campers are practicing their English language skills all day as they share activities, meals and time in the cabin with their English speaking friends. We even have a tutoring class in English where children will meet to review and work on daily use of English.
