Ill Camp 0059As Lonnie Lorenz, director of Swift Nature Camp for 30 years, "I firmly believe that any age is the right age for a child to experience the magic of summer camp." At Swift Nature Camp, we welcome campers of all ages and backgrounds, providing tailored programs and activities to suit their individual interests and developmental needs.

For younger children, summer camp offers a unique opportunity to explore the wonders of nature, make new friends, and develop essential social and life skills in a safe and supportive environment. Our exclusive first time camper program has less campers and focuses on younger campers. Here we focus on hands-on learning, outdoor adventure, and creative expression, fostering a sense of curiosity and wonder that is unparalleled. With our high ratio of staff to campers we encourage and support new campers and help children move through homesickness. Our goal is to have campers see their time at over night summer camp as a success. Thats why nearly 95% wish to return each summer.

Similarly, older children and teenagers benefit immensely from the experiences offered at Swift Nature Camp. Whether they're seeking outdoor adventure trips, leadership opportunities, or simply a break from the pressures of daily life, our camp provides a welcoming and inclusive space where they can grow, explore, and connect with peers who share their interests. Plus a parent favorite is no screens are allowed.

As a camp director, I've witnessed firsthand the transformative power of summer camp on children of all ages. From building confidence and resilience to fostering a deep appreciation for the natural world, the benefits of attending camp extend far beyond the summer months. Camp teaches life skills you only learn by living with others.

Ultimately, the best age to go to summer camp is whenever a child is ready to embark on a journey of discovery, growth, and adventure. Some time that takes a parental nudge and thats OK. Parents have to remember that they know what is best for their child. Even if the child is a bit reluctant. At Swift Nature Camp, we are committed to providing a positive and enriching experience for campers of all ages, helping them create memories that last a lifetime.
