overnight camp MinnesotaOvernight summer camp in Wisconsin is a unique environment that provides children and teenagers with the opportunity to learn many outdoor activities that are taught less often back home. At Swift Nature Camp in Wi. important life skills are also taught in a fun and supportive setting. One such skill is the lesson that our choices reflect our intentions.

At residential summer camp, campers are often given the freedom to make choices independently, such as which activities to participate in or how to spend their free time. These choices provide valuable opportunities for campers to demonstrate their values and priorities.

When a camper chooses to participate in a challenging activity, such as rock climbing or canoeing, it shows their intention to push themselves outside of their comfort zone and grow as an individual. Similarly, choosing to help a fellow camper with a task or showing kindness towards others demonstrates an intention to contribute positively to the camp community.

On the other hand, choosing to sit out of activities or being unkind to others may reveal a different intention. A camper who chooses not to participate in activities may be signaling a lack of interest or a fear of failure. Similarly, a camper who engages in unkind behavior towards others may be reflecting negative intentions such as a desire for attention or a need to feel superior.

The lessons learned at summer camp can carry over into everyday life, where the choices we make have consequences and reflect our true intentions. In school, for example, a student who chooses to study diligently and participate in class demonstrates their intention to learn and succeed academically. Conversely, a student who chooses to skip class or engage in disruptive behavior may reveal an intention to avoid responsibility or seek attention.

In our personal lives, the choices we make reflect our intentions and values. A person who chooses to spend time with loved ones, volunteer in their community, or pursue a passion project demonstrates their intention to prioritize meaningful connections and personal growth. On the other hand, a person who consistently chooses to prioritize work over personal relationships or engages in self-destructive behaviors may reveal an intention to avoid confronting deeper issues or prioritize short-term gratification over long-term well-being.

Ultimately, the lesson that our choices reveal our intentions is an important one that can shape our character and guide our decision-making in all aspects of our lives. At summer camp, this lesson is emphasized through experiential learning, where campers are given the opportunity to make choices and witness the consequences of those choices firsthand.

By understanding the link between our choices and intentions, we can become more mindful and intentional in our decision-making, leading to greater personal fulfillment and positive impact in our communities. So, the next time you find yourself faced with a decision, remember the lesson learned at summer camp and ask yourself, "What do my choices reveal about my intentions?"

100 1936The summer camp season is approaching, Especially in those state that have many residential summer camps, states like Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois are knowen for sending children to summer camp and for many of these families, the countdown has already begun. But what's all the fuss about? Jeff Lorenz from Swift Nature Camp is quick to mention "Why is summer camp such a popular option for parents and children alike"? The truth is that summer camp provides numerous benefits for children, as well as some surprising benefits for parents too. In this article, we'll explore five benefits for children and three benefits for parents of sending your kids to summer camp.

Benefits for Children:

  1. Independence and Self-Confidence: Summer camp is an excellent opportunity for children to develop their independence and self-confidence. Being away from home and parents for a few weeks can be scary, but it also provides children with a chance to learn to rely on themselves and to gain confidence in their abilities. They learn to make decisions on their own, to try new things, and to take risks.

  2. Social Skills: At summer camp, children are surrounded by peers and are encouraged to interact with them in a positive way. They learn to build relationships, to cooperate with others, and to communicate effectively. Camp activities such as team sports, group projects, and campfire storytelling can also improve their social skills.

  3. Physical Activity: Many children today spend a lot of time indoors, either in front of screens or doing sedentary activities. Summer camp provides them with an opportunity to get out in the fresh air and engage in physical activity. They can try new sports, develop their skills in a particular area, and improve their overall fitness.

  4. Creativity and Problem Solving: Summer camp offers children the chance to engage in creative activities such as arts and crafts, drama, and music. These activities encourage children to think creatively, develop their problem-solving skills, and express themselves in new ways.

  5. Memories and Fun: One of the best things about summer camp is the memories that children make. They have fun, make new friends, and have experiences that they will remember for the rest of their lives. Summer camp can provide children with a break from the routine of daily life and give them a chance to have a truly unforgettable summer.

Benefits for Parents:

  1. Peace of Mind: Parents can feel reassured knowing that their children are safe and supervised at summer camp. They can relax and enjoy their own summer activities, knowing that their kids are in good hands.

  2. Personal Time: Summer camp provides parents with a much-needed break from parenting. They can take some personal time to focus on their own interests and needs, without having to worry about the kids.

  3. Value for Money: Summer camp can be an affordable alternative to other summer activities, especially if parents are working during the day. It can provide children with a full day of fun and activities, without the added expense of babysitters or day care.

In conclusion, summer camp offers a wide range of benefits for children and parents alike. It provides children with an opportunity to develop their independence, social skills, physical fitness, creativity, and problem-solving abilities, while also creating unforgettable memories. For parents, summer camp offers peace of mind, personal time, and excellent value for money. So why not give your child the gift of summer camp this year? The countdown is on!

catOvernight Summer Camp is an exciting time for kids to make new friends, try new activities, and gain independence. However, with the ongoing pandemic, many parents are feeling anxious about sending their children away to camp. Despite the uncertainty, camp spaces at Swift Nature Camp and other camps are filling up quickly. In this article, we'll discuss what parents can do to secure a spot for their child at the camp they want.

First and foremost, it's essential to start early. As soon as you know your child's summer schedule, begin researching camps that match their interests and your family's budget. You'll want to look at the dates, length, location, and program offerings. Once you've found a few camps that fit your needs, reach out to them to inquire about availability and registration deadlines.

Next, be flexible with your dates. Some camps may only have a few spots left on certain weeks or may offer a discount for attending during less popular times. If you have multiple options, consider choosing a less popular week to increase your chances of securing a spot.

Another tip is to stay connected with the camp. Many camps offer newsletters, social media updates, and email lists to keep families informed about any updates, changes, or openings. Sign up for these communications to be in the know and to show your interest in the camp.

It's also important to be prepared with all the necessary information and documents. Make sure to have your child's medical forms, emergency contact information, and any other required paperwork ready to go. Some camps may also require a deposit or full payment at the time of registration, so have your payment information available as well.

If your preferred camp is full, don't give up hope. Many camps have waitlists and may contact families if spots become available. Consider putting your child on the waitlist and exploring other camp options as a backup. You never know when a spot may open up, and having a backup plan can ease your stress and give your child something to look forward to.

Finally, consider virtual or day camp options. Many camps have adapted to the pandemic by offering virtual or day camp options, which can provide a similar experience while staying closer to home. If you're not comfortable with overnight camp yet, explore these alternatives to keep your child engaged and active during the summer months.

Camp bunks at Swift Nature Camp and other camps are filling up quickly, but there are still ways to secure a spot for your child. Start early, be flexible, stay connected with the camp, have all necessary information ready, consider waitlists and backup plans, and explore virtual or day camp options. With these tips in mind, you'll increase your chances of giving your child a summer camp experience they'll never forget. See What Space is Left

This sense of achievement can be a huge confidence booster for campers, as it shows them that they are capable of more than they may have initially thought. One unique aspect of Swift Nature Camp is its focus on nature and the environment. Campers are encouraged to explore the natural world around them and learn about the different plants and animals that inhabit it. This not only teaches campers about the importance of conservation and sustainability but also helps them to develop a deeper connection to the natural world. This connection can be a powerful confidence booster, as it allows campers to feel more in tune with themselves and their surroundings.

Finally, Swift Nature Camp provides campers with many opportunities for leadership and responsibility. Campers can participate in group activities and projects, such as setting up campfires or preparing meals, which require teamwork and communication skills. DO try and schedule a tour of the camp just 2 hours from Minneapolis before camp starts. Seeing our beautiful camp setting and meeting our staff will give your child a better idea of what to expect and ease any nerves they may have.

DO get to know our camp director and leadership team. Our team is passionate about providing a safe and fun environment for all campers, and we want to get to know your child and family too! A Meet & Greet is held in person prior to camp as well as a many Zoom Meetings prior to camp.

DO let your child know that it is okay to miss home and still have fun at camp. Homesickness is a natural feeling, and we have strategies in place to help campers feel comfortable and happy. Our small size makes it easier to give individual attention to each camper

DON'T make pick-up deals with your child. We want to encourage campers to stick with the program and gain independence and confidence. So do not tell them " Just try it for a few days, if you don't like it, I'll get you". This is a guarantee for failure.

DON'T obsess over the photos we share on our website or social media. Photos only show a small snapshot of the day, and your child may be fully engaged in an activity even if they are not smiling in the photo.

DO feel free to call Lonnie & Jeff every day if need be. If you hear nothing from us, that is good. We will contact you if there are any issues, and we want to give campers space to grow and learn.

DON'T pack items that we ask you to leave at home, such as phones & food. We have strict policies in place to ensure a safe and positive camp experience for all campers.

DO send your child a positive letter in the first few days of camp. A letter from home can be a great comfort to campers and remind them that you are thinking of them. Although close to Minneapolis, it still takes 3 days to ge a letter to camp.

DON'T write about all the things they are missing or how much you can't wait for them to be home. This can make them feel homesick and anxious.

DO participate in any new camper get-togethers we schedule. These events are a great way for your child to meet other campers and feel more comfortable.

DON'T overpack. We have limited storage space, and do laundry 1 time a week..

DO know we have no visiting day. Parents can come when ever they want (after the first 7 days). However less than 10% of our parents visit. They save that visit for pick up day.

DO try to enjoy your summer knowing that your child is having fun and making memories at Swift Nature Camp. We are dedicated to providing a safe, positive, and educational experience for all campers.
